Goals for 2009

Students Goals

  1. Students should meet and at times exceed, PUSD’s Unifying Technology Standards including Technology Operation, Technology Issues, and Technology Curriculum for their given grade level.
  2. All 2nd through 5th graders to have individualized logins on the district network.
  3. All students to have learning time set aside for usage of classroom and/or lab PCs during normal school day.

Staff Development Goals

  1. Implementation of staff technology assessment to determine staff technical training needs and target training opportunities to upgrade necessary technical skills.
  2. Actively pursue funding from parent foundation, grants, other sources to secure technical training for staff, especially in areas of web design/ publishing, word processing, presentations, and multimedia based training.
  3. Teacher In-Service on selected technical topics during professional growth and collaboration times.
  4. Access to attendance and daily bulletin will be online.
  5. Utilize district technical training opportunities, especially related to web design and publishing.
  6. All teachers to become proficient at using email;
  7. Increase school/home communication through technological advances with use of email, voicemail, and/or class web pages;
  8. Minimum _ of the staff with active/updated classroom web sites using district standard software.
  9. All teachers to be aware of PUSD’s Unifying Technology Standards for their grade level.
  10. Teachers to instruct their own students in computer lab setting with curriculum plans designed to meet and/or exceed PUSD’s Unifying Technology Standards.
  11. Teachers to become proficient at using mobile wireless laptop, projector, and cart.
  12. Support district and site assessment models (STAR Reading, STAR Math, MAPS).
  13. Encourage sharing and dissemination of technical knowledge between staff by identifying “experts” in various technical areas who can make themselves available to help other staff as needed.

Curriculum Goals

  1. Purchase current software relevant to each discipline’s need.
  2. Establish an onsite paid-position Web Manager to manage school’s web site, research curriculum sites, upload and assist teachers with their web pages, and create use of technology from any location on campus.
  3. Establish an onsite paid-position Computer Resource Aide to maintain PC lab, work with teachers on developing lab-based curriculum, provide technical guidance to teachers on hardware and software; issues, assist teachers in administering MAPS testing, supplement district support structure when it is not available.
  4. Support the implementation of the PUSD technology standards.
  5. Develop computer basics curriculum that will educate students as to basic PC and network operation, file structure, internet, and email functionality.

Infrastructure Goals

  1. All network capable peripherals will be maintained and upgraded as needed.
  2. Expand classroom network connectivity such that classrooms may have greater access to the internet and lab networked software through the use of wireless technology.
  3. Upgrade Painted Rock Lab LAN to deliver 1 gigabit bandwidth to the desktop.
  4. Reduce reliance on individual printers in classroom by pursuing networked printing solutions such as HP JET Directs.
  5. Secure a networked color laser printer.
  6. Secure Media PCs and necessary software for the computer lab to provide an environment for students to experiment with digital photo, video, sound/music creation and editing to gain exposure to this type of technology use.
  7. Continue to replace aging classroom PCs with faster models.
  8. Eliminate use of Windows 95 and Windows 98 at Painted Rock and migrate whenever possible to latest Windows operating systems supported by PUSD.
  9. Replace inkjet printers throughout the school with duplex laser printers to reduce per page printing costs and paper costs.
  10. Obtain furniture specifically designed for PC labs to enhance the learning experience by providing an ergonomically superior workspace for each student.
  11. Continue to follow PUSD guidelines relative to network, hardware, and software installations.
