Hand Washing Campaign
Running Club
Book Fair
PTA hosts two book fairs during the school year (November and May). PTA
donates the proceeds from the November book fair to the school library
for new books!
Caring Coins/Caring Community
Throughout the year, and especially during the holiday season, there
are many families in need in our community. They may not have clothing
to wear, food to eat, books to read, or even toys!
In the school office there is a box
labeled "Caring for Coins". By donating your coins or dollars, families
in our community will receive the necessities they need. The money will
go toward gift cards for these deserving families. YOU can make a
difference and feel good at the same time by helping people in need.
Hand
Washing
Campaign
Colds and flu cause high rates of
absenteeism among students. The PTA wants us all to stay healthy,
so we created a Hand Washing/Illness Prevention Campaign.
We Need Your Help and
Participation.
Please review the information below, and share it with your family. The
teachers will be talking with the students about proper hand washing,
and the spread of germs, in the classroom. The PTA will be sponsoring a
Poster Contest during the year and awarding a monthly "Healthy
Classroom" Trophy to the classroom with the least number of absences in
the prior month.
How to Stop the Spread of Germs
Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
Cough or sneeze into
a tissue and then throw it away. Cover your cough or sneeze if you do
not have a tissue. Then, clean your hands, and do so every time you
cough or sneeze.
Wash your hands…
- After you use the bathroom.
- Before you eat.
- Before, during, and after you prepare food.
- When your hands are dirty.
- After handling animals or animal waste.
- More frequently when you, or someone with whom you come in contact, is
sick.
Proper Hand Washing Technique
- Wet you hands and apply liquid, bar, or powder soap.
- Rub hands together vigorously to make a lather and scrub all
parts of your hands, not just your palms.
- Scrub for 20 seconds. It takes that long for the soap and
scrubbing action to dislodge and remove stubborn germs.
- Rinse hands well under running water.
- Dry your hands using a paper towel or air dryer.
Additional Suggestions to Keep Your Child Healthy
- Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Many children line up early for lunch. Encourage your child to
use this time to visit the restroom and wash their hands before
eating.
- Include a hand sanitizing wipe or a small bottle of hand
sanitizing gel in your child’s lunch for use before they eat lunch.
- Don’t share food, drinks or makeup.
- Wash your hands after school.
Running
Club
The purpose of the Running Club is to give kids a
chance to have fun while increasing their physical fitness. As many
parents know, running strengthens the bones, muscles and develops the
cardio-vascular system. Children who run have higher energy levels and
lower body weights than inactive children. In addition to increasing
physical health, an active lifestyle also improves children's overall
well-being and academic achievements.
The Running Club will run on
Tuesdays and Thursdays starting September 11 during morning recess.
Running Club is open to ALL students in Grades 1-5. Kids will run (or
walk) laps on the playground and earn ribbons for every five miles that
they complete. Kids can run/walk as much or as little as they want.
Classes with the most runners and most miles will also receive
recognition.
We need Volunteers to make
running club a success! If you can volunteer during morning recess on a
Tuesday or Thursday just once a month you can help. Please contact us at
PomeradoNews@sbcglobal.net
if you can help.
