API INCREASE AGAIN!
Each year the California Department of Education issues a “report card” to public schools throughout the state. This report card is called the API, or Academic Performance Index, and is based primarily on test scores from both STAR Testing done in the spring, and the graduation-required CAHSEE exams. The STAR, or California Standards Tests, are given to all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in Math, English, Science, and Social Science, and CAHSEE exams in English and Math. The results this year were outstanding.
Poway High School scores increased once again by 12 points to 845. We are extremely proud of a score which ranks us first out of the four high schools in our district and third among comprehensive high schools in San Diego County. The schools still exceeding us are Coronado (850) and Torrey Pines (849). Our students continue to distinguish themselves based on what they learn day-to-day in these core content area departments. I am very proud of the fact that our improvement has been consistent, with few dips, over the past seven years. It is a true reflection of the hard work and dedication from our students, staff and community.
To see API’s of schools in all parts of the state, go to API Reports.
Sincerely,
Scott Fisher, Principal
