Goal: By the end of this unit students will be able to identify and use the structure of a persuasive essay to effectively argue their point of view using precise and relevant evidence and expressions of commonly accepted beliefs and logical reasoning.

1. Is it better to give than receive? Write your opinion. TPS 5min
2. Teacher will introduce the term "Thesis Statement" and persuasion.
3. Teacher will define structure of a persuasive essay.
4. Teacher will give list of thesis statements to students and students will sort thesis into persuasive TS and nonP TS.
5. Through class discussion assess students understanding of persuasion in thesis statement.
6. Students will choose topic of persuasion and in pairs will create a thesis statement to fit the topic of persuasion.
