 I was born and raised on the shores of Lake Erie in Lorain, Ohio. I attended the same high school where my dad taught and coached boy’s basketball. My mom was a Reading teacher for our city’s rival high school and later became a school administrator. When I was in high school, I participated in cheer and drama. I also swam competitively and played softball for local recreation teams. I am the youngest of 4 children; 3 of us are school administrators (my brother Mike is a high school principal and my sister an elementary school principal) and one, my brother Mitch, a science teacher and coach of Oberlin College’s girl’s basketball team. Both of my brothers are married to teachers, and my husband is an assistant principal at Torrey Pines! To say my family has a lot in common is a bit of an understatement! I attended college in Athens, Ohio at Ohio University where I received a Liberal Arts degree in English Literature. I went back to school to earn my secondary teaching certificate in English and my master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University. In 1999 I earned my National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adulthood English Language Arts. Last year, I passed the School Leaders and Licensure Exam to qualify for my California credential in school administration. Prior to becoming an assistant principal, I taught English for 12 years in Ohio and California. I have taught at both the high school and middle school levels, and I have taught a variety of grades from 8th -12th including college prep, honors, and AVID. I also coached cheerleading in Ohio for 8 years. I am a very social person, so when I am not working I love spending time with friends. I love sports, and even though I did not attend The Ohio State University (my husband did), I am still a big Buckeye fan! I support all of the San Diego teams and also all of the Cleveland professional teams. I am also a big shopper. You can often spot me in the Fashion Valley Mall spending my hard earned dollars. My husband and I have been married for 6 years, and we love to travel whenever we have the chance! We live in Hillcrest.
