What to do after you are absent
On the day student returns to school:
1. Check absence list near attendance office window to determine if your parent/guardian has contacted the Attendance office.
2. If name is not on list, go directly to class (student is excused).
3. If name is on list, go to attendance office window for a readmit to class (our office does not have the absence excused).
Absences not reported by the parent/guardian before a student returns to school are considered as TRUANT. It is important that you check the absence list the day you return to school to verify that your absence has been excused to avoid unnecessary disciplinary consequences being issued to you.
Being readmitted to class
· If you have a written note to excuse the absence, you must bring the note up to the attendance window BEFORE proceeding to any class. A readmit will be issued to show teachers that the absences from classes have been excused.
· If you do not have a valid note from parent/guardian, you will receive a truant readmit slip and be assigned a consequence for the truancy.
· Disciplinary consequences must be served if our office is not contacted by a parent/guardian by phone or written note to excuse the absence(s) within 24 hours.
· It is the responsibility of the student to verify that their absences have been excused and that they no longer need to serve the consequence.
Should a parent request that a student’s absence be excused after the 24 hour period following the absence has passed and the request is granted, the student’s attendance record will be adjusted, however students will still need to serve the original consequence issued. Please be aware that it may be necessary to speak with the Assistant Principal to excuse any absence past the 24 hour period.
