OAK VALLEY
MIDDLE SCHOOL
TRAFFIC August 1 7, 2009
When
we return to school in August, you will find that a few new traffic changes
have been implemented by the county. Please observe the following:
- Before
and after school, the Oak
Valley staff will
continue to provide a safe and orderly environment while on duty by
monitoring students and controlling the traffic flow in the school parking
lot. This is the safest place for student to be dropped off and picked up.
The California Highway Patrol will be monitoring during our drop off and
pick up times. When they are present, the flow of traffic is better and
the children are safer.
- The
section of Bernardo Center
Drive/Carmel Valley Road between Dove Canyon and Winecreek is THREE-MINUTE
DROP OFF/PICK UP (No extended parking allowed) from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm
directly at the curb, with the bike lane “floating” outside of that. PLEASE
use caution when you cross that bike lane, as we expect our students to use
that lane to come to school.
- There
are flashing yellow lights letting drivers know they are in a school zone,
and to reduce speed to 25 mph.
- There
is a new NO U-TURN/NO LEFT TURN DURING SPECIFIC TIMES, sign posted in the
median in of our bus drop-off driveway.
- The
designated right turn lanes to bring you into our parking lot have not
changed.
- At
the end of Winecreek Road,
there is an entrance to Ivy Gate development. This is a private road. Please
respect the sign which states “Private
Road – DO NOT ENTER.” Do not use that road
for U-Turns, waiting to pick up your child, etc…
Helpful Tips for drop off
and pick up:
- Reduce
your speed around our school.
- When
using the traffic circle, follow the directions of our staff.
- Please
remind your students to use the sidewalk and cross in the marked areas in
the parking lot. Remind them to
cross at the intersections with controlled signals and crosswalks (Dove Canyon/Carmel Valley Road
and Winecreek/Carmel Valley
Road).
- Please
watch for students walking in the parking lot, on sidewalks and in
crosswalks.
- Conditions
would improve and be safer if parents waited five to ten minutes longer
to pick up their student. Traffic is essentially non-existent at 3:20 pm.
- Please
watch all posted signs, such as NO U-turns, parking limitations, etc.
- Please
do not park on the Ivy Gate private road at the end of Winecreek Road, (in front of our
school).
By
following these few rules, we can help keep our students safe. Together, we can
set an example of good citizenship for our children.
Thank
you for your cooperation.
