COSTUMES, PAPER AIRPLANES & ICE CREAM IS THIS THURSDAY
Are you ready for some fun? Are you ready to enter some paper airplane contests and eat ice cream while wearing your Halloween costume? This Thursday our Dad’s Club will host its first event of the year. It is shaping up to be a fabulous fun-filled event. So, be prepared for some BIG fun! Costumes are optional. Anybody is welcome (aunts, uncles, grandparents, moms and dads) This fun event will take place beginning at 6:00PM in the MPR.

HALLOWEEN PARADE IS THIS FRIDAY
Our Halloween parade will take place Friday, October 30th beginning at approximately 9:15 on the playground. Each grade will have the opportunity to parade around the playground and share their costumes with the entire school. Make sure to bring your cameras as this will be an occasion you don’t want to miss. All parents are invited to attend. Students should drop off their backpacks at their classroom as soon as they arrive at school. A shortened Friday Flag will take place on the playground this week.

MAPs FOR PARENTS
On Thursday, November 6, I will be hosting a parent evening dedicated to discussing MAPs (Measures of Academic Performance). I will focus on discussing what MAP testing actually is, why we do it, and how we use it. I hope you will join me for this informative evening.

HELPING HANDS
Our PTA Helping Hands committee is proud to support the Adopt-A-Family program. We will begin collections of new, unwrapped toys (for any age/boy or girl) next week. MRES will adopt 10 families this year. Last year, MRES contributed to 10 families and over 300 families were helped throughout PUSD. We truly need volunteers to help get the word out and invite families to choose gift tags from our Giving Tree in the lobby (available after Nov. 5th) These tags will be more specific to the needs of each family.
If you would like to be part of a great program and help other families during the holiday season, please email roxands@yahoo.com. We welcome off campus collections...Think about your extended family, business, church, scouts or team adopting a family!

IMPACT TEACHER FUNDRAISING
We are almost there... our current Pledge Drive balance is $15,000! The MREF Foundation set a goal of $35,000-40,000 to cover the additional help of IMPACT teachers. These teachers are on-campus daily, they work with small groups from all grades and classrooms. These teachers are here to help alleviate the increased size of our classrooms while supporting the teachers and ensuring our students receive more targeted support. You may support the pledge drive anytime throughout the year. Look for the pledge drive letter on the website. Your donation is 100% tax deductible. Don’t forget company matches, monthly donations and now credit card donations are welcome through PayPal on the Foundation website at mresfoundation.org (simply click donate on home page).

THE 2nd ANNUAL MRES TALENT SHOW IS GEARING UP
The Foundation is seeking volunteers to help get our Talent Show organized for this year. The show will take place in late May. We need helpers to make this show come alive again this year! Please email mref@timwong.com if you can help or would like more information.

JIMBOS
Jimbo's will once again be sponsoring a MRES day on Thurs., Oct. 29th. Don’t forget to get your groceries, pick up healthy treats for your class parties, or pick up your lunch/dinner anytime on Thurs., Oct. 29th. You must bring them in the flyer that is posted on the PTA website and will be in the e-Packet.

BOX TOPS
Everyone did a great job on this last Box Top contest. Our PTA is still counting and collecting them! We will continue to collect Box Tops through out the year so don't throw any away because you missed the last contest. Our collections/contests will be ongoing through out the year and we need you to keep collecting. Our next theme will be Show your Gratitude to your School. Start collecting now! More information to follow.
