Richard Buckminster Fuller
THANK YOU PARENTS, FOUNDATION, PTA AND MRES STAFF
A HUGE thank you is owed to so many people for making last week so
successful. It was filled with lots of exciting activities and new
traditions. Thank you for making our Talent Show, Book Fair, and our Dad’s
Club event, Breakfast, Books and Basketball, fun and exciting experiences
for our students.
KINDERGARTEN/PEPP REGISTRATION INFO
A new link has been placed on our school website to provide you with updated
information regarding K and PEPP registration. The link is located on the
front of our home page. We have included the list of all the information
that is needed for students to register. All children are required to have
their vaccinations fully completed before enrolling in Kindergarten or PEPP
unless exempted as provided by law. Exemptions must be provided at the time
of registration. Registration for Kindergarten and PEPP will begin on
Wednesday, May 13, 2009. It will take place from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. and will
continue each day thereafter in the office between the hours of 9:30 a.m. –
2:00 p.m.
PARENT BOOK CLUB
I hope you will join me this Friday, March 20 after Friday Flag for a
discussion of the book Positive Discipline. This will be a wonderful
opportunity for us, as parents, to discuss the book and strategies we use
successfully (or not so successfully) with our kids. Please join us (even if
you have not read the book). I am very much looking forward to this next
opportunity for us to share parenting stories and successes.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is one of the most important baseline factors in determining
student success. A 2008 study conducted by the Rodel Community Scholars at
Arizona State University which tracked students from kindergarten through
high school found that dropout patterns were linked with poor attendance,
beginning in kindergarten. We closely monitor attendance at MRES and want
your child at school. Please make sure your child attends school regularly
and is on time. The number of absences and tardies has been increasing
lately.
A COMPUTER FOR EVERY CHILD IN PUSD
The Kiwanis Clubs of Rancho Bernardo, Poway and Rancho Penasquitos, in
conjunction with PUSD, have developed a program to place computers into the
homes of Poway Unified School District students who do not currently have a
computer in their home. The goal of the program is to provide every student
in Poway who does not currently have a computer in their home with one
within the next three years. 100 computers will be distributed during this
round and another 200 at the end of the year. There are several criteria,
income being the primary one, to qualify for receiving the computer.
Applications are available on our website in both English and Spanish.
Dr. Rich Newman.
