President's Message: May
by Lisa Velazquez, PTA President/2012 - 2013
It’s hard to believe that the school year is drawing to a close, and that this will be our last newsletter for the year. It’s frightening how quickly time flies; soon summer will be upon us with a whole new set of challenges!
While wrapping up the current year, the PTA is also charging full-steam-ahead with lots of events on the calendar. Some important dates coming up:
- May 13th – 17th is our Buy One/Get One Free Book Fair. Make sure to take advantage of this great opportunity to stock up on books for summer reading.
May 21st is the last day of Running Club! It’s been another amazing year for PTA’s biggest and most popular program. If you’d like to help out by being on the committee next year, please contact Kathryn Takeuchi at ktakeuchi@me.com
May 23rd is another big night…Art & Music! Not only is our wonderful Colt Chorus performing their Spring Concert starting at 5:30 PM, but we’ll be holding an art fair! Make sure to return your RSVP to school so that we can frame your child’s art for the show. You’re not required to purchase the framed masterpiece, but if you choose to do so it’s $24.95 with one dollar going towards our Art Education program. Unframed work will be returned after the show.
-
May 30th is our annual Science Night. If your child wants to enter an experiment, make sure to turn in your registration form by 5/17 (see the website for details). Everyone gets a participants ribbon, and there will be one Principal’s Choice award for each grade level. Come celebrate science with the PTA and the Cub Scouts!
-
June 7th will be our End of Year Event, and this year we’re trying something new – Family Movie Night!Stay tuned for more info coming soon.
June 12th our Fifth graders will be promoting. It’s an emotional day at Morning Creek as we say goodbye to the “big kids”.
-
And last, but certainly not least, June 13th is the last day of school!
As I wrap up my first year as president, I want to thank everyone on the PTA board that has given so much of themselves to make this an amazing year. You’ve missed meals at home, spent countless hours preparing for events and deadlines, and stepped in wherever help was needed (all so our school and the kids can thrive!) -- if that's not love, I don't know what is. If I could give you a gift today, it would be simply: a well-deserved one-day break so that you can have time for yourself and perhaps your significant other and your family. You've earned it!
And thank you to everyone that has supported our causes from big to small – none of it is possible without the unwavering support of our Morning Creek families.
It can be a stressful time of year with so much going on, so try to take some time to celebrate your child’s successes as they say goodbye to one grade and get ready to start another. We’ve all earned that!
See you in the Fall,
Lisa Velazquez
