President’s Message – August 2015

Hello and welcome to a new school year at Meadowbrook Middle School!  For those of you new to our school, you are in for a whirlwind of exciting experiences and new friendships beyond the elementary school “nest”.  For those returning Meadowbrook veterans, we hope the summer gave you the downtime you needed to tackle your next middle school year.  As the parent of a returning 7th grader, I am excited for what the year will bring!

Our PTSA has undergone a lot of changes over the summer.  With a brand-new board and an ambitious list of goals, it is sure to be an exciting year!  We invite you to join us for the ride by becoming a PTSA member.  At only $11 (and no volunteering required!), this is the EASIEST way to support the programs we provide to the students and school.  See the ‘How to Join Us’ tab for all the info.

While you’re filling out your membership form (to bring with you on registration day) please consider making an additional donation to our “Money For Mustangs” fund.  This is our ONLY active fundraiser, which we rely on to fund all of our programs and events.  Here’s what we have planned (we invite you to attend our first meeting right before Back to School Night to vote them in):

We would also like to humbly ask that you consider clipping those Box Tops for Education for Meadowbrook.  We know many of you have children in elementary school as well (as I do).  But as our only other source of income, we truly benefit from each and every one of those cute little pink labels!  We’re making it super easy to turn them in, with four turn-in days this year.  Look for the box in the front office.

Besides your valuable monetary donations, the other thing we need from you is your INPUT.  The list of programs above, plus our budget and calendar, must be approved by our members.  We’ll be asking for your approval on September 2 at 5:30 PM, right before Back to School Night.  You’ll get a parking spot AND have a say in what PTSA spends your donations on!  We hope to see you.

Lastly, I’m sure many of you new families will have questions throughout the year as you adjust to middle school life.  PTSA is here to help!  We may not have all the answers, but we will figure it out!   So please don’t hesitate to contact me any time at

With Mustang Pride,

Lisa Velazquez

Four Important Things About PTSA

rrow PTSA is a powerful advocate for family involvement. Over three decades of research shows that the single most effective element in a student's success if the involvement of family members in the student's education.

rrow Members are the strength of our organization. Active and informed members make positive decisions that affect the welfare and education of youth locally, statewide and nationally. Everyone can be a member at any PTSA. The more members enrolled in PTSA, the more powerful our voice.

rrow You are important to us. It is important to the PTSA that you, as a parent, understand the benefits of PTSA. Attending PTSA meetings is an opportunity to keep families informed and the school community about PTSA priorities and the issues that affect our children.

rrow Our community is our greatest asset. As advocates for all children and youth, the PTSA is most effective when we value all members of our communities by seeing the uniqueness of each individual and working to build strong representation from all groups
