College and Career Explorations
December 18, 2009 (Coloma)
In November and December, Meadowbrook Middle School seventh and eighth graders
embarked on a journey to discover more about themselves and their wide open
futures. The students were involved in activities that better helped them
understand the various costs of life’s necessities and the different career
fields that matched their personal interests and strengths.
Students also obtained information about schools that provide additional
training and education in their chosen fields of interests.
Meadowbrook Middle School
firmly believes in preparing all our students so that they will be “College
Ready.” So, to that end the
Meadowbrook staff will provide student programs that will continue to foster
exploration and planning towards academic, career, and personal success.
Support and training was provided by
Solutions.

Meadowbrook
Middle School
Hosts the National Network of Statewide Afterschool Networks
January 27, 2010 (Donnelly)
On January 27, 2010 the
Meadowbrook
Middle School
after-school program hosted a site visit for attendees of the National Network
of Statewide Afterschool Networks. Meadowbrook, the only middle school in
the county to be selected, welcomed professionals from several states, including
South Dakota, Connecticut, and
Oklahoma. Funded by the C.S. Mott Foundation, SAN
annually connects key decision-makers committed to funding and sustaining
quality school-based or school-linked afterschool programs that improve outcomes
for young people, particularly in underserved communities. Teams from some
states included influential stakeholders such as governors' education advisors,
elected officials such as legislators, mayors, and school board members;
representatives from state education agencies, and leaders from education,
philanthropic foundations, and community based organizations.
After a tour of the activities, site coordinator Christine Donnelly and district
coordinator Linda Ellet led a discussion about the challenges of after-school
programs and funding. Meadowbrook, along with four other PUSD middle
schools, offers free before and after school programs every school day. The
programs are funded through the California After School Education and Safety
grant.
