Welcome to the No Excuses University at Los Penasquitos Elementary School
Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)
Gifted children are those who are exceptional due to their markedly greater than average cognitive potential or ability, and whose exceptionality engenders special educational needs that are not likely to be adequately met through the regular core curriculum. They require a modified, differentiated curriculum in order to ensure their school growth and success.
The purpose of GATE services in the PUSD is to identify and motivate highly able students to realize their full potential. The district seeks to formally identify and serve students whose cognitive aptitude is determined to be significantly beyond the level of their peers. Their academic achievement may or may not be commensurate with their ability at the time of identification. Differentiated Instruction and other services ensure that identified students achieve at levels commensurate with their abilities.
