Garden Road ESS Program Information
ESS stands for “Extended Student Services”, a before and after school childcare program on the Garden Road campus. ESS is an extension of your child’s day – meeting academic and social needs in a safe, nurturing environment.
ESS staff is well trained to provide for the academic and social needs of your childe in a safe and nurturing environment. We have an average adult/child ratio of one ESS staff member to approximately every 15 children. Our staff attends staff development workshops and is first aid and CPR certified.
Our program is geared toward expanding your child’s world with a variety of activities. Our curriculum includes Arts & Crafts, Sports & Games, Science Activities, Math Concepts, and Reading & Language reinforcement. Homework assistance is offered to students in grades 1-5. Children have lots of opportunities to make new friends and develop their social skills. AM - The children are engaged in free play activities prior to being dismissed to the playground (1-5) or walked to class (K). PM - After checking into ESS, the children have snack (ESS provided) and play outside prior to homework time (30-45 minutes Monday - Thursday, which includes reading everyday). When homework time is done, they remain in their group for a planned project or activity. All children return to the ESS building at 5:30.
Program hours: 6:30AM—6:00PM, Monday through Friday, year round. Please refer to the ESS calendar for specific information regarding ESS or holiday closures.
Cost: ESS is a fee-based program. Our program is self-supporting and financially independent of the Poway Unified School District. An annual registration fee is renewed at the beginning of each school year. Please refer to the ESS Fee Chart for fee information. Registration packets are available in the ESS office.
Enrollment: Your child must be registered and attending Garden Road before enrolling. An ESS enrollment packet must be picked up and returned to us along with a $50.00 registration fee and a full month’s tuition. Once we have received your completed enrollment packet along with the necessary fees, your child is enrolled and ready to participate in ESS.
