Greetings Del Sur Explorers!
November 2009
Greetings Del Sur Explorers!
During the week of November 16 to 20, our teachers will be holding
parent-teacher conferences. We feel this is a very important time where we
continue to form a strong partnership in supporting the academic and
social/emotional needs of each of our students. During the week of November 16
to 20, school will be out at 12:15. Teachers will be scheduling appointments
with parents prior to these dates. Parent conferences are designed to better
familiarize the classroom teacher with your child, recognize your child’s
strengths and needs, to develop your child’s instructional goals together, and
to coordinate home/school support. Thank you in advance for attending this
conference. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to help your child
succeed in terms of the grade level standards.
Inherent in the conference conversation is the notion of student goal setting.
At Del Sur we believe that all students should be continually setting goals and
reflecting on their success in completing the goal. In fact our third through
fifth grade students are formally recognized for achieving their stated goals at
our recognition assemblies. Periodically throughout year, we hold Recognition
Assemblies to formally acknowledge our students for they work they do. Our
kindergarten teachers held their first assembly on October 16. Our kindergarten
teachers recognize students for a specific achievement they have demonstrated
relative to their individual goals. Our first through fifth grade student
recognition assembly will be held November 2nd in the afternoon. Parents will be
notified if their child is to be honored at the assembly. We feel very fortunate
that our parents attend these assemblies to support their children.
Additionally, at our recognition assemblies we hand out Running Club ribbons. We
continue to be impressed by the number of students who are participating in this
heart healthy program.
Parents thank you for your continued support of all of our programs at Del Sur.
During the previous three months, I have had the opportunity to meet with our
various parent and student groups on campus – the PTA, the Elementary
Foundation, our ELL committee, and student council. . It is always a pleasure to
have an opportunity to sit down and meet with these various groups. As we look
at school-wide issues, individual committee input is always helpful as it shapes
our future goals and endeavors. Thank you parents and students for being part of
these committees and organizations and lending your voice to important
conversations.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving vacation. We have much to be thankful for
especially in regard to our outstanding students who come to school every day
ready to learn and grow.
See you on campus,
Doug Johnson
