Sophomore Stuff

The opening of Del Norte High School provides you a unique opportunity most sophomores never experience – the opportunity to choose where you would like to complete high school.  For one year only, current freshmen may choose to continue attending their present school, or to become a member of the first graduating class of Del Norte High School. 

So…how do you decide if Del Norte is right for you?  First of all, you need to know that regardless of which school you choose to attend, you will receive an outstanding education; this is a collective commitment of the entire Poway Unified School District community.  You will graduate college ready, equipped with skills that will prepare you for success in the workforce and post-secondary education. 

Sophomores choosing Del Norte should have an interest in leadership.  Our sophomore class will be the upper classmen for three years in a row!  While Del Norte will open with many of the same course offerings and amenities available at Poway’s other comprehensive high schools, rather than thousands of students, it will open with hundreds.  DNHS students will enjoy a small school environment and become part of an intimate learning community.  Sophomores will help to establish the school culture and traditions, working cooperatively with the freshman class.  They will be expected to lead us in and out of the classroom – setting a high standard in scholarship, citizenship, and in extra-curricular activities and athletics. 

As the graduating class of 2012, and the first graduating class of Del Norte, the sophomores will forever hold a special place of distinction in the history of Del Norte.  Being the first is a special privilege and an awesome responsibility. 

Leadership…small school environment…being the first, the standard setters and the standard bearers…are you in?  The world is our playing field, and there are no bleachers.  If you’re ready to be a part of something special, something unique, something future generations will look back upon and admire, plan to join us.  History begins in the fall of 2009.  Hope to see you there!
