 Principal

In March 2008 the Poway Unified School District announced the selection of Greg Mizel as Principal of Del Norte High School.

Prior to the announcement, Mr. Mizel served as Principal of Mesa Verde Middle School, a position he held since 2004.  Under Mr. Mizel’s leadership, Mesa Verde Middle School increased its API significantly.  MVMS became the first school at the secondary level in PUSD to achieve an API of 900 or greater in 2005-06.  With a 918 API this last school year, Mesa Verde achieved the fourth highest API among middle schools in San Diego County.  Mesa Verde Middle School, a California Distinguished School and a National Blue Ribbon School, was featured in the September 2007 Top Schools issue of San Diego Magazine

Mr. Mizel is passionate about all students learning.  While at Mesa Verde, he and the distinguished staff there worked very hard to ensure every student was successful.  The team at Mesa Verde made steady progress closing the achievement gap.  Student proficiency rates improved for almost every subgroup.  Lots of wonderful and innovative interventions were put into place.  One unique piece of work that grew out of the student-centered focus was the Herman’s Way Project. Read More
