Hello Deer Canyon,

Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year! We are so excited to be back and see all of you again as well as meet all of our new families. We have a new principal this year, Mrs. Terry Worthington, so please come by and say hi.

There are several reminders below. Please read carefully as many of these things may apply to you.

New Family Orientation:
Please join us Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. This is a welcome for all new families. Children are welcome!

Class Listings Posted:
Friday, August 15th after 4:00 p.m. I know you’re all waiting for this! If you are not able to come on that day, the class lists will be left on the board behind the front gate through the weekend so you’ll still be able to view them.

Kindergarten Meet and Greet:
All Kindergarten students and their parents are invited to come and meet with your Kindergarten teachers on Monday, August 18th according to the following schedule:
A-F 8:30-9:00 a.m.
G-L 9:00-9:30 a.m.
M-S 9:30-10:00 a.m.
T-Z 10:00-10:30 a.m.

First Day of School:
School starts Tuesday, August 19th and is a full day. Playground supervision starts at 7:40 a.m. for grades K-5. The first bell rings at 7:55 a.m. and students should be in their classes promptly at 8:00 a.m. If your child is late, please bring them by the office for a late slip. School is out at 2:15 p.m. Please make sure arrangements have been made for you child after school. After school supervision is only available to students enrolled in ESS.

Late Start Fridays:
Deer Canyon has a late start day every Friday beginning August 22. The Friday schedule is 9:00 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Playground supervision begins at 7:40 a.m. for grades 1-5. Kindergarten students should plan to arrive just before school begins and report directly to their classrooms. Regular office hours start Monday, August 18 and will be 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Continuing Student Registration:
If you have not yet come to Deer Canyon to complete your registration paperwork please do so as soon as possible. We are open this week between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. You will need to download the Signature Verification form and the Student Health Information form from the PUSD website. When you come to the office, we will also have you verify and sign the Student Information form. These forms need to be completed before school starts.

Attendance:
Please remember to call the absence hotline if your child will be late or absent for any reason. The absence hotline number is 858-484-4876. You can also email Stephany Brown at stbrown@powayusd.com. Please don’t depend on the teachers to notify us of absences. They’re busy teaching your students!
