Overview:

Excellence through Externships is a teacher and counselor work experience project. The project began in the summer of 2007 as a partnership between Palomar College and Poway Unified School District through SB70 funding. During the summer of 2008, it continued as an opportunity for Poway Unified educators.  The externship model places teams of counselors, career technical education teachers, and academic-core teachers out into industry. The first year the industry sectors were Arts, Media, and Entertainment; Transportation (automotive); and Health Science and Medical Technology. The second year focused on Finance and Business; Engineering and Design, and Fashion and Interior Design (merchandising).

The 2009 Excellence through Externship project will take place from June 17th-30th and will focus on the following five industry sectors:

  • Energy and Utilities
  • Engineering and Design
  • Finance and Business
  • Health Science and Medical Technology
  • Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation
