ARRIVAL TO SCHOOL

  •  Students should not arrive at school in the morning before 8:40 a.m. (no adult supervision)
  • Students may not go through the halls.
  • Students should take all books and other items with them to the playground, not to their classroom.
  • Students should put their belongings on their classroom line up area. School begins promptly at 8:55 a.m.
  • Students are expected to be in their seats ready to learn at this time.
  • Students arriving after the 9:00 a.m. tardy bell, must come to the office for a late slip before going to class.

If it is raining when students arrive at school, they go directly to the MPR.

DURING SCHOOL

Once students arrive at school, they may not leave the campus or playground during school hours without permission from the office. Students must be checked out in the office by a parent or guardian.

During school, students are asked to:

  • walk quietly through the halls so
  • not to disturb classes at work.
  • not to “cut-through” the library to come out another door.
  • not to bounce balls in the halls or against the walls of the school.

DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL

At dismissal time, parents should meet their children by the flagpole in front of school or the designated area in the Cul-de-sac. Kindergarten-PEPP parents should pick up their children from the kindergarten playground area in front of the PEPP room. Parents should NOT meet their children inside the school or by their classroom, as it is a distraction to the learning environment and blocks the hall ways significantly. Please be respectful of students learning time.

Parents driving students to and from school should adhere to the parking lot procedure for dropping off and picking up students. Parents/Guardians should park on Tannin and walk in to pick up their children. ONLY THOSE DISPLAYING A CHAPARRAL ISSUED PLACARD ON THEIR REARVIEW MIRROR WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARK IN THE FRONT PARKING LOT. THIS PARKING LOT IS FOR STAFF ONLY.

We understand that occasionally emergencies occur and parents are late to pick-up their child. To insure safe supervision of all students, children left unattended after 4:00 pm will and 2:30 pm on Wednesdays will be taken to ESS and a fee will be assessed.

Unattended vehicles parked in yellow zones will receive a parking citation. There is no parking allowed in the red zones at any time.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE

One of our goals at Chaparral is to instill in our students the importance of education. Students who value education do better in school. We believe that regular attendance and punctuality are necessary for high achievement and future success. Every absence or tardy can interfere with a child’s progress. Chaparral also loses approximately $30 each day a student is absent from school whether excused or unexcused. This directly affects school programs.

Pupil Tardiness Students should understand that:
  •  Regular attendance and arriving on time are important habits to develop.
  •  Late arrivals must check in through the office to obtain a late slip. This helps the office keep accurate attendance records.
  •  If they have 3 unexcused tardies in one month, their parents will be notified and consequences will be discussed.

Pupil Absences Parents must keep the school informed and call the office or send a note to verify a student absence.

Students who will be away from school on a trip for more than 5 days must have their parents come to the office to sign and obtain a Homework Contract from the office. Students who are absent less than 5 days should ask their teacher for a homework packet. This will allow teachers to give the work that will be missed. Please do this 2-3 days in advance.

Students who are frequently absent should understand that it will affect their schoolwork. In these cases, the principal will speak to the student and/or their parents.

SCHOOL ATTIRE

Students are expected to wear clothing and shoes appropriate for school. Please adhere to the following guidelines:
  •  No clothing with inappropriate graphics/words
  •  No sagging/dragging pants are allowed.
  •  Footwear must be safe: no shoes with wheels are allowed.
  •  Hats may only be worn on the playground.
  •  No mid-drift showing.
  •  No shorts or skirts above mid-thigh.

STUDENT HEALTH: Chaparral has a Health Attendant to take care of first aid and emergencies. In case of student illness at school, the health attendant will notify parents or the emergency contact listed on the enrollment form. No registered nursing services are provided at the school on a daily basis.

MEDICATION: Any student who is required to take medication, whether doctor prescribed or over-the-counter during the regular school day must have on file an “Authorization To Administer Medication” form. The health attendant or other designated school personnel will then assist the student in receiving the medication if the school receives the Authorization form. Forms are available from the Health Attendant.
