PTSA President's Message

..

My name is Ron Cole and I am the PTSA President for the 2011-2012 school year. At Black Mountain Middle School the PTSA is an organization of collaboration consisting of parents, teachers & staff, and students working together to ensure all students have a safe and enriching learning environment.

This year the PTSA will be working especially hard sponsoring such programs as Reflections (art program), Running Raiders, Ball Cart (during lunch), CHARACTER COUNTS!, the School Directory, a monthly informative PTSA Newsletter, Book Exchange, Cell Phone Recycling, Book Fair, and a Fall After School Art Program (new this year). Another important contribution the PTSA will be making this year will be supporting BMMS’s efforts to teach how to identify and stop all forms or bullying through information sharing and parent education opportunities.

In order to support the programs the PTSA sponsors, we need your help. One way you can help is by participating in our “Hassle Free” fundraising by submitting donations of any amount (anything is much appreciated). In addition, and more importantly, we need you as a volunteer. Volunteers are the lifeblood of PTSA sponsored programs. We have had outstanding support in recent years and we are confident this will continue.

As always, another area of focus for the PTSA this year will be reaching out to our families, teachers & staff, and our community to grow our membership. We will be introducing a new opportunity for members to become part of our “Just Between Friends Network” that will ensure relevant and timely delivery of information about education issues and how we as a community can come together quicker and improve the way we advocate on behalf of all students. If you have already joined, THANKS! If you are considering joining, we hope that you will.

Sincerely,

Ron Cole
PTSA President 2011-12

Character Counts At BMMS

We are happy to announce the BMMS PTSA will begin a new Character Counts Program which will begin in January and end in June.  Every month, for the rest of the school year, each basic education teacher will nominate one of their students, who exemplify the designated Pillar of Character, to receive the reward.  The nominees will all receive a Character Counts t-shirt, pencil and a special treat during lunch.

January’s Pillar of Character is, Trustworthiness. Below is an excerpt from the Character Counts website with a brief example of Trustworthy behavior.

Be honest • Don’t deceive, cheat, or steal • Be reliable — do what you say you’ll do • Have the courage to do the right thing • Build a good reputation • Be loyal — stand by your family and friends.

Remember Raiders, Character Counts!

If you have any questions regarding this program please contact Nicole Sanseverino at nsansev@gmail.com.
