I feel so fortunate to work in a community that is as supportive and diverse as Ranch Penesquitos. Black Mountain middle school exemplifies our community. Our parents are always willing to volunteer their time and energy to our school. They support our efforts to teach students not just content knowledge, but also the habits of mind and character traits that will allow them to be successful in life.
From our character counts program to our school wide binder used to teach organizational skills, we believe in educating the entire student. Part of their education also includes how to demonstrate respect for themselves and with others. Having such a wonderful mix of ethnicities and cultures provides us with ample opportunities to teach respect for those who are different from you. I feel we are able to prepare our students for the 21st century. I want to thank the Black Mountain community for welcoming me and for working with all of us to build on the success of our students. We have made great strides in improving student achievement and creating a school culture that promotes mutual respect and cooperation. Thanks for the opportunity to serve as your principal and to work with such amazing students.

I have worked in the Middle School for eleven years; I began as an 8th grade science teacher at Marston Middle School in San Diego City Schools. I spent one year as the Dean of Students at Marston and I am now beginning my third year at Black Mountain.
During the time that I have spent in Middle School Education I have come to admire those individuals who can work with this age group. I recognize that middle school is a difficult time for many students and I work cooperatively with the staff to ensure that the time students spend at Black Mountain is a rewarding and positive experience. I believe that all students can learn if they are provided a safe and caring environment that allows them to focus on their education.
Currently, I am working with the Staff of Black Mountain on a plan to better meet the needs of all students. Part of this plan encompasses the modernization of the site and reflecting on current practices to ensure students receive a 1st class education.
