Giving TreeThe Giving Tree It's that time of year! Stone Ranch will once again be doing a gift card drive to help needy families in the Poway Unified School District through the Adopt a Family program. We were able to raise $1500 worth of gift cards last year; let's try to top that this year! Keep an eye out for the tree in front of school and come grab an ornament. If you are unable to stop by, you are more than welcome to go purchase a gift card on your own to any of the following: Target, Walmart, Albertsons, Ralphs, Vons, or Stater Bros. Any dollar amount is appreciated. There will be a turn-in box near the tree in the office. If we could get some gift cards back by the end of next week, that'd be great. Also, please return the ornament with the card so we can reuse them. Also, if you would like to adopt a family on your own or with another family, please contact me. The Palomar Council said they have so many needy families this year, and they can use all the help they can get. Thanks for your generosity. Eve Grewe, The Giving Tree Coordinator, evegrewe@cox.net

Stuffed AnimalsOPERATION FURRY FRIENDS:  The Boy Scouts are collecting new stuffed animals to give to abused and neglected children at the Polinsky Children’s Center.  These children come to the center, often for the first time, very scared and sad, as they have been removed from their homes.  Many of these kids need updated immunizations, and often are given 4 to 5 shots at one time.  A stuffed furry friend can be comforting to them.  Help bring joy to a child – drop off an unwrapped NEW stuffed animal in the box in front of the school.

11/18 - Enjoy a Family Night Out at Souplantation or Pat & Oscar's on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Invite your friends too for a fun get-together and support Stone Ranch Foundation.  Flyers now available at www.stoneranchfoundation.org.

lunchLUNCH MONEY:   Poway Unified School District has made great efforts to make paying for lunch easy!  There is mylunchmoney.com (which allows you to use a credit card to pay for student lunches) and envelopes which can be dropped off to the front office (checks or cash).  Despite these efforts, we are still facing many overdue student lunch balances.  Beginning Monday, November 9th, all students in grades 3 through 5 who have a lunch balance greater than $6 will be calling during their lunch time to remind their parents to deposit money in the lunch account.    Students in grades K through 2 will go to the office during their lunch time and a member of our office staff will call parents.  If your family is experiencing financial hardship, and may qualify for a free or reduced lunch, please pick up a form in the foyer for details on how you qualify for this service.
UPCOMING EVENTS

H1N1 FLU VACCINATION CLINICS: Poway Unified School District, in partnership with San Diego County Health and Human Services, Palomar/Pomerado Hospital, and the City of Poway, is planning to offer nine school site H1N1 Flu Vaccination Clinics in mid-November and early December.  The clinics will be after school and in the early evening, and on Saturdays.  A special clinic is planned in early January for those children under ten years of age who require a second dose of the vaccine.  Once the quantities of vaccine for the clinics have been confirmed, the clinic schedules will be finalized.  Parents will then be contacted directly with complete details through voice and email messages, on the District website and, through flyers sent home with students.

Safety Reminder

A Safety Reminder to Our BIGGER Trailblazers, This is for those of you who bring their little Trailblazers here in cars. Take a deep breath when you enter the parking lot and REMEMBER THESE SIMPLE RULES:

  1. Drop off zone is ONE WAY only.
  2. Do not get out of your car if you are in the drive through loop - Use the right lane only!
  3. Students should exit their cars by the door next to the curb.
  4. Your little Trailblazer can open and close the door for him/herself.
  5. Shoes and jackets on! Backpacks zipped up and accessible. It is best if they are in the car by the student, rather than in the trunk.
  6. We don't want children walking between cars.
  7. Our staff is here to help open the doors & get the littlest Trailblazers out safely. ---Please treat them kindly!
  8. Please stay focused--Cell phones off in the parking lot.
