Letter to Parents
Print Version

September 2013

Now that we are about a month into the new school year, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to ESS. While many of you have been with us through the years, we also have many families who are new to the ESS world and we would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone.

While we are almost 3700 students strong at 25 different sites, our goals remain the same, whether large or small or somewhere in between, we are committed to the safety of your children while we strive to embed social, academic and physical fitness activities all mixed up with a big dose of fun into our programs.

One of our major goals this year is to provide a strong professional development plan to all of our staff, from our program aides to our site Supervisors and Lead Assistants. This in turn benefits our students as recipients of new learning and more effective methods of support. We will also continue to work closely with our school sites and staff in order for ESS to be an extension of what is happening during the day. Site safety plans are also being reworked to ensure we are maximizing what we can at ESS to provide a higher level of awareness.

I am very proud to be a part of the ESS organization as I can see from a firsthand view that your children are entrusted to dedicated, professional people who oversee each site, and wear many hats in their endeavor. On a daily basis they will hear many a story from a child, wipe a nose, give a hug of encouragement, help with a homework problem, check on a student, wipe a tear, answer the phone, solve 100 problems and still smile at you when you come through the door.

Please also remember that we are partnering with you, so always feel free to communicate with the staff at the site. You can also always email me – jgregg@powayusd.com – and as we look at some other possible means of communication and information, we will keep you in the loop.

Thank you again for sharing your children with us!
Johneen

Sincerely,

Johneen Gregg
