Welcome to Adventures in Cyberspace.  Before exploring the farthest reaches of the cyber world we have an important message for all Cybernauts from our Cyber Security department.

Put Safety First While Surfing the Net,
Follow our six rules and you'll be Set.

You've probably already learned that whenever you roam out of your own neighborhood it's important to know who you're talking to, where you're stepping, and who's around the corner. Well, you must keep those same rules in mind whenever you're traveling around on the world wide web.  Here are some great rules to follow:

from the Cyber Security Dept

1.  When you're on line, you're communicating with the world. Make sure your language is appropriate, respectful, and kind toward all people. Use your freedom of speech to make our world a better place for everyone.

2. Protect your personal information.  Just like you can't trust everyone you meet in person, you can't trust everyone you meet on line.  Don't send anyone your photo or personal information, such as your name, password, your parent's name,  address, phone, location, or school without your parent's or teacher's permission.

3. If you receive mail or are participating in a chat and someone uses language or pictures that make you feel uncomfortable in any way, find a parent or teacher who can help you solve the problem.

4.  When searching on line, use search engines that go to sites that have been approved for kids and teens. If you ever stumble into a site that makes you feel uncomfortable, tell a teacher or parent right away.  (Save the site...it may help your parent or teacher determine the best solution.)

5.  Never agree to meet with anyone you meet on line.  Talk to your parents first.  If they feel it would be a good idea, then plan to meet in a safe public place and take your parents with you.

6.   Just like you and your family have to decide how much TV you watch and which programs are appropriate for you,  plan together for how much time you will spend on line and what sites you will visit or avoid.  Take time to make a set of family guidelines and learn to use your time wisely.
