What is
the Teaching & Learning Cooperative (TLC)?
|
|
The TLC is a voluntary program that:
-
Promotes high quality professional development
in support of District goals.
-
Focuses on teaching and learning in support of
achieving District goals.
-
Encourages teachers to initiate and take
responsibility for their own professional growth.
-
Compensates teachers who participate with a 1.5%
salary increase.
-
Is
funded by Title II, Teacher Quality Funds of
NCLB
-
Is
designed and managed by the joint PUSD/PFT
Professional Development Advisory Board.
-
Is
entirely voluntary. No TLC projects can be
mandated for all school/all staff through forced
participation.
|
|
How
Does It Work?
|
|
The
TLC is based on quality criteria and aligned to
student needs. It is:
-
Explicitly linked to District goals and embedded
in day to day work.
-
Reflective of professional development best
practices-- acquisition of new knowledge,
development / implementation in the classroom,
reflection on impact and future modifications
(continuous improvement).
-
Initiated by District, PFT, Councils, and/or
teachers.
-
Approximately 40 hours per semester = 10 points.
-
Approximately 80 hours = 20 points.
-
40
points = 1.5% salary increase for 3 years.
-
Proposals must be open to all interested persons
in target groups (i.e. all 4th grade teachers at
a site) in order to be considered a TLC Project,
not limited to pre-selected teachers.
|
|
What do I do if I wish to participate?
|
-
Go to the Staff Development website:
https://staffdev.powayusd.com and view the list of
course offerings found under the "TLC
Opportunities" tab. Elect to participate in a
TLC-approved activity OR;
-
Submit your own/your group's proposal to the Professional Development Advisory Board
via administrative assistant to the board,
Lynnette Turner.
-
Contact Karen
Wusthoff, Noreen Walton, or any other
Advisory Board member for support in
developing a strong proposal.
-
Define
expected outcomes, alignment to District
goals, activities (acquisition,
implementation, reflection), and estimated
time.
-
Pending
approval, accomplish the work as defined in
the proposal.
-
Get approval before starting work- either as a
facilitator or a participant!
-
Summarize completed work and outcomes and submit
them to the Advisory Board.
-
Maintain records of points earned. Your points
will be submitted to
payroll once yearly (fall).
|
|
Why
would one choose to participate?
|
-
The TLC provides recognition and compensation to
professionals for ongoing professional learning
and commitment to continuous improvement.
-
The TLC will provide a variety of options and
choices.
-
Most importantly, the TLC will assist in
building capacity across the organization in
support of increased student achievement and
success.
