Mission Statement for Special Education
in the Poway Unified School District
|
|
We Believe Special Education Services:
-
Meet the identified needs of each and every
student with disabilities by setting high
expectations aligned with the state standards
and the district mission statement in the least
restrictive environment.
-
Instill within students the skills necessary to
make smooth transitions throughout their
educational careers and into adulthood
-
Embrace collaborative teaching partnerships to
ensure that students are integrated into the
general education program. Students
receive the quality and caliber of curriculum
and instruction equal to their non-disabled
peers.
-
Ensure success through inclusive ownership,
equity and consistency of services, adequate
resources, and effective communication among
staff.
-
Include parents and guardians as full partners
in the development and implementation of the
individualized Educational Program for their
child.

How:
|
|
The PUSD Special Education
Council will work collaboratively to implement the
Strategic Plan that was developed by the Strategic
Planning Committee and Action Planning Committees
over 2 years ago.
Four Strategies
Developed by the
Strategic Planning Committee
-
We
will create a district-wide culture of ownership
of all students by all staff members at all
sites.
-
We
will implement strategies to reduce adversarial
IEP situations and reduce the incidence of due
process filings.
-
We
will implement effective specialized instruction
using research-based curriculum and assessment
to accelerate special education and learning.
-
We
will provide appropriate effective district and
site-based training for both general and special
education staff, administrators, and parents to
ensure the implementation of consistent and
effective instructional strategies to meet the
individual needs of all students.
