  • Using Literature in Mathematics:

"Children's books are effective classroom vehicles for motivating student
to think and reason mathematically...Incorporating children's books into math instruction helps students experience the wonder possible in mathematical problem solving and helps them see a connection between mathematics and the imaginative ideas in books..." -Marilyn Burns

Educators are discovering that children's books in mathematics classrooms are not just for elementary students and teachers! Books initiate authentic problem-solving investigations for all students and strengthen students' abilities to make connections within mathematics and across content areas.

Recently the California Department of Education brought online a searchable database of children's literature (by standard). Check it out and discover the power of children's literature to motivate your students.
