Time to do some Research:
Your job is to play the role of a
uncommitted town citizen. You don't have a solid opinion on if the plant should be built.
You need to investigate the problem from all sides.
Questions the Town Member Team Must
Answer:
A Summary:
You need to open the dossiers of each
group and study all sides of the issue.
- Decide on what the two most important
questions each presenter will need to answer. For example, the owner of the company should
be prepared to respond to the local economic benefit of a nuclear power plant.
- You need to find artifacts that will
assist you in all sides of the issue.
Value Assessment
- What public values or beliefs underlie
nuclear power, and might create a bias one way or the other on the importance of nuclear
power in the US.

Action Plan
You must now present your Special
Report to the town in the form of a brief (10 minute) informational
summary of your findings. Create a detailed, 4 step, process on how the town should
proceed. Remember, not everyone understands nuclear fusion and there exists many
misconceptions about it.
Presentation Advice
Because your task is to create a
concise presentation, consider the following strategy:
- Prioritize what you
think the most important issues are. This will take some detailed and supported discussion
among team members.
- Identify the two or
three most important issues.
- Develop a main strategy
that addresses these top two - three issues.
- Order a series of steps
that shows the Action Plan you suggest Seaside should take.
- Explain where
compromises took place and why you made the decisions you did. For example, if you choose
to promote business investment, show why this is more important than focusing first on the
effects on the environment.
- Create an informative
and engaging presentation of your "Special Report." You can do this with Power
Point and/or butcher paper diagrams and charts.
