Book Adventure - Book Adventure is a FREE, reading incentive program dedicated to encouraging kids in grades K-8 to read. With the help of Rex Reader and Bailey Bookmark, kids have more than 5,000 of the most popular and acclaimed titles from which to choose. Book Adventure was created by the Sylvan Learning Foundation and is a non-profit organization.  Currently being used at Mesa Verde Middle School, contact Miraim Wiese, Caroline Cochran or Kara Hanes for information on how it's being used.

SCORE Cyberguides - CyberGuides are supplementary, standards-based, web-delivered units of instruction centered on core works of literature. Each CyberGuide contains a student and teacher edition, standards, a task and a process by which it may be completed, teacher-selected web sites and a rubric, based on California Language Arts Content Standards.  Many are written by PUSD teachers, and are used successfully in our classrooms.

Bridges - (Interdisciplinary) You are on a team of people who will be designing, building, and  managing the cost of the bridge.  Before you start building you bridge in class, find out more about the types of bridges there are and the sites that they are designed for.  When you have this background knowledge, you will be able to do the "Bridges" activity in your classroom.  

European Christmas - We will be taking some time to practice reading skills to learn about several holidays.  For this set of  activities, we will be traveling on the Internet to Europe to take a look at  Christmas traditions there.  You will make a chart showing the customs that they have during Christmas, develop an icon and will label countries on a map of Europe with the icon for the country's traditions.  You will also write about a tradition that your family practices that is important to you.

Happy Hanukah -You are going to have the opportunity to find out more about the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.  You will read about its origins, customs and significance.  You will answer questions, play a dreidel game and chose another game to test what you have learned

Online Shopping Spree - Simple spreadsheet skills with fun online shopping activity.  The GOOD NEWS - Since you have worked SO hard this year babysitting, mowing lawns and pulling weeds, you have earned $10,000 for your holiday shopping!  (Not likely, but go with it.)   The BAD NEWS - You have been working so hard,  that you haven't had a chance to shop.  You need these gifts NOW!  Since you are so short on time, you will be shopping online and keeping track of your purchases using a spreadsheet program.

Where I'll be in 2023 - Career exploration activity designed for middle school students. "Before you know it, you will be selecting a college and deciding on what career path you will want to follow.  Though the job that you will have may not have been invented yet, it is not too early to find out what direction you may be heading."
