CORE Literature
Guidelines
The following are the CORE
literature titles for grades K-12. These titles may be used for
classroom instruction for the FIRST time at the grade level designated in
the list. This means that before the designated grade level, the book
will not be taught, read aloud, placed on a teacher-generated recommended
reading list, seen on a video, or used in a small group, large group, or
literature circle setting. If a student chooses a CORE literature for
independent reading during Reader's Workshop, the teacher may conference
with the student on that book. You do not need to purge CORE titles from
lower grade's current classroom libraries.
