This program allows you to produce quality videos, yet is extremely easy to use. You will be making movies, adding sound, voiceovers, music, special effects, scanned materials, photos, or text shortly after installing this program. It works on a PC platform. You'll need a PC that has at least 512 mb of ram and at least a 10-20 gig hard drive. You will want to be in a Windows XP for the best results. When installing Pinnacle, you may want to choose the custom install so you can choose to install system upgrades if you're on an older version of windows. Install Pinnacle to your C drive and if possible, add an additional internal or external hard drive to which you can stream your video footage. (For an external drive, the Maxtor One Touch II, 250 GB, 7200 rpm, 16 mb cache is a great choice. Avoid older FAT32 external drives.) Sony DCR-HC96 This camera has an external microphone input which is becoming rare in lower-end video cameras. (The HC42 is being discontinued as of May 2006. The HC 96 costs more than the replacement, HC46, but has more options for capturing sound and works better in low light.) We have recommended the Canon (Elura 90). It is a good camera, but some sites have mentioned that at times it records the sound of the tape turning. Recommended Tripod and Video Head

This software is also good for ease of use, but is only available on an iMac or Apple computer. It has most of the features offered by Pinnacle Studio DV, but is a linear editor. If you have a Mac, this is the program for you! Jules Trandem at Creekside, Ross Kallen at RB High, Randy Yerrick a volunteer at the academy at Black Mountain, and Russ Bird at Mesa Verde are a few of the expert users in the district. Windows Movie Maker Windows Movie Maker comes with your Microsoft operating system in XP and XP Media Edition. Russ Bird at Mesa Verde has used this program successfully with many teachers and has found it to be extremely user-friendly.
This software has a steeper learning curve, but produces true professional quality videos. It uses the Apple Platform and is not currently available for the PC. Ross Kallen is the RB High expert on this program. Liquid Edition Liquid Edition, like Final Cut Pro has a much steeper learning curve than Pinnacle Studio DV, but produces true professional quality videos on the PC platform.
