VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

 

BACKGROUND: The City of Poway is a full-service general law city and operates under the Council/Manager form of government.   The City workforce includes over 200 employees who provide a wide range of municipal services including (1) planning, building and safety; (2) street maintenance; (3) street lighting; (4) fire protection; and, (5) law enforcement.  The City also provides various youth, teen, senior and other community service and recreational programs.  The City's motto "The City in the Country" reflects a commitment to the preservation of Poway's unique quality of life, making it a very desirable place to live and work.

DESCRIPTION: The City of Poway's partnership with the Poway Unified School District was established to promote programs and projects that are mutually beneficial to our students and citizens.

ESTABLISHED: March 2002

GOALS:

bullet Provide increased awareness of City government and Community Services provided to the public - especially to financially disadvantaged children and families.

bullet Assist students with literacy.

bullet

Increase community and career awareness among the students of Valley Elementary School.

ACTIVITIES:

Participate in the "Principal for a Day" program.

bullet

Provide student tours of Community Services, the Fire Department, Sheriff's Station, Library and other City of Poway departments for fifth grade students.

Encourage participation in the City of Poway's "Poway Leisure Assistance for Youth (PLAY) program.  The PLAY program provides scholarships to youth 17 years old or younger to participate in recreation programs.  For information on the "Play Program", click here to be linked to the Slice of the PIE page (listed under "Events").

Develop other supportive activities throughout the year.
