CASA DE LAS CAMPANAS
AND
WESTWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

BACKGROUND: Westwood Elementary School and Casa de las Campanas are neighbors.  Westwood Elementary is a well-established school with a large student population.  Casa de las Campanas is an active retirement center with a companion convalescent facility.  The residents of Casa have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share with the Westwood Elementary School students.

DESCRIPTION: The partnership between Casa de las Campanas and Westwood Elementary School provides an opportunity to broaden students' experiences and to develop a climate of trust and mutual support with our retired neighbors.  The active retired residents from Casa participate in a variety of school programs and activities.

ESTABLISHED: October 22, 1992

GOALS:

	Develop a sense of teamwork between the different generations.
	Provide means of exchange of individual talents and experiences.
	Increase student understanding and awareness of the needs of older citizens.

ACTIVITIES:

	Host productions in the Casa theater.
	Host primary grades' visits to the Health Center.
	Supply the school with a resource listing of resident volunteers.
	Host meetings for the Westwood staff.
	Display artwork of students in the Casa art gallery.
	Support PTA Heritage Fair and Reflections Fine Arts program.
	Arrange visits by students to Casa and residents to the school.
	Sponsor Writers' Tea for GATE students.
