BACKGROUND: Established in San Diego County in 1988, Aurora Behavioral Care is a full-service adult, psychiatric facility treating adolescents and children in inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospital programs.

DESCRIPTION: Aurora Behavioral Health Care and New Directions partnership was designed to provide collaboration for student and staff learning and understanding of issues concerning families.

ESTABLISHED: October 12, 1992

GOALS:

bullet Promote nurturing activities in developing student self-worth and self-esteem.

bullet Provide collaboration for student and staff learning about mental health issues.

bullet

Increase community awareness of mental health issues.

ACTIVITIES:

bullet

Purchase informational literature for students and parents on mental health issues.

bullet

Provide staff in-services on stress reduction, conflict mediation, attention deficit disorder, mental health issues, and drug/alcohol education.

bullet

Provide refreshments for the middle school eighth-grade promotion ceremony.

bullet

Sponsor the K-5 President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Olympics Day.
