1.  What event led to the necessity for the The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)?  Who adopted this document?

2. The first section of the UDHR is titled the Preamble.  Define the word preamble and summarize the focus of the one provided before the articles.

3.  Who is the intended audience of the document?  

4.  Read articles 1-5.  What are the rights that all people should be entitled to?

5.  In the case that a person violates any of the articles set forth by the UDHR, what right should a person expect to receive?

6.  Article 8 states that "everyone has the right to an effective remedy by the competent national tribunals"?  What does this mean?  If you were to explain this idea to a 2nd grader, how would you restate this idea.  Use the dictionary to help you.

7.  In terms of our world today, what would be an example of "arbitrary arrest"?

9.  What rights are given to each individual in terms of community?

10.  Keeping in mind that this is a living document, think about the world today.  Go to CNN.com. Look through the news headlines. Then, provide an example that shows how a person's right/s have been violated and why this document should continue to be a focus for the world.  Remember to list the article # from the UDHR and then explain the circumstance.
