“Keys To Success” in the
Online Environment
Flexibility means…
-
Because of the online environment, you will need to be flexible with your
schedule. (I.e. review days, group projects, lab day adjustments)
- In
case your Internet goes down, you can turn in your assignment (TYPED) in
hard copy form before the start of the school day. Make sure that it is
typed and proofread.
-
Save the site in your history folder in case the server crashes. To do this,
open your browser and go to tools. Click on Internet Options. At the bottom
of the folder, set the history to 21 days. This will allow you to access the
site up the 21 days after you initially accessed it even if the server goes
down. You can then work on assignments offline.
Commitment means…
·
To run
the lectures, you will need to install Real One on your computer. This is the
free version. You can access it at www.real.com
·
When
you e-mail questions and assignments, do NOT send attachments. Complete your
work in a word document. Proofread and use the spellchecker, then copy it into
an e-mail message and send.
·
Write
all deadlines in your planner OR print out a copy of the week.
Integrity means…
·
I want
your thoughts and your work. Do not copy and paste someone else’s answers. Copy and
paste is an example of “plagiarism.” This action is in violation of the PUSD
Academic Honesty policy. A violation
may lead to a Withdrawal/Failure.
·
Do not
work with another student on an assignment unless specifically instructed to do
so.
·
This is
a regular class in a new environment. You are expected to be ON TIME when we
meet. The Mt. Carmel attendance policy will be strictly enforced in this class.
·
Since
we only meet once a week, I expect you to be in class. All appointments (doctor,
dentist…) should be scheduled on non-lab days.
·
If I
email you individually, I expect you to respond promptly.
·
All
researched information must be documented correctly and not altered.
Ownership means…
·
Save a
copy of everything you email to me. If there is a mailer daemon or a
discrepancy, you have proof of your work.
·
When
you email your assignments, include the
assignment title
in the subject line. Don’t forget to include
your name
on the assignment itself. Failure to do either of these two
things will result in point deductions.
Failure Leads to Success
means…
·
Work on
a disk is not the same as having the assignment in on time. If you wish to print
your work on the classroom computer, it will cost $.10/page. Ink and paper are
expensive.
·
Remember to spell-check your assignments before you email them to me. There is
no excuse for spelling errors when you use the computer. Your grade will suffer
if you turn in an assignment that is not proofread.
·
I
reserve the right to require a rewrite or redo on major assignments that do not
meet standards.
Balance means…
·
Start
your assignments…sooner than later. Work ahead whenever you can.
·
In a
traditional class, you would expect to work 50 minutes in class and 20-30 at
night. To successfully complete all assignments, you will work an equal amount
of time.
·
Being
online does not mean being isolated. You will be participating in group
projects. This means you need to familiarize yourself with your classmates by
using the email system through
www.learningpoint.org.
Speak with Good Purpose
means…
·
The use
of email is for communication and questions. It is not for griping
or complaining. (The content of all emails should be
appropriate for your teacher, other teachers, and school administrators.) Any concerns need to be brought to my attention in person. Please
do not wait until lab day to speak with me. Our class time is very valuable.
·
The IM
service should be used during your own time. Online work is separate than
communication with your friends and classmates.
This is it means…
·
You
have a right to turn in assignments early. However, all deadlines
are final.
