A. Salary
and Occupation: Since you have 3 children, someone must stay home to take care of
them. Therefore, only one person in your family will be able to work.
Look through the jobs listed in
the 19th Annual Report of the Commissioner of Labor in the
Family Economics reading and choose a job that will pay roughly $40 a month.
List the occupation and salary for your
worker.
Monthly Budget
Now it is time to work on your budget. For each of the following, how much would it cost to purchase enough for your family to survive?
B. Monthly Food Purchase:
Based on the recommended daily amount of food an adult should consume
per day with a child consuming half of this amount, I calculated the
monthly amount that would be necessary to feed a family of 5.
Since you want variety in your diet you must choose and list at least 3 examples from all five of the food categories listed below. You must also calculate the miscellaneous costs in at the end.
For each of the five categories below, be very specific about which foods you are going to purchase and how much you are purchasing. For example, are you purchasing a Rib Roast or Pork Chops? How much of each item did you buy and how much did each cost?
Miscellaneous costs- Clothing, doctors, ice... $5.00 a month for the whole family
C. Housing Costs- Where would you live and
how much would it cost for 1 month?
D. Transportation- How much would it cost
per month for you to use the subway? You must ride the subway for 20 days
in a month.
E. Heating- How much would you spend on
heat for your family for 1 month? ( you will need to purchase coal for 15
days in a month)
F. Bathing- How much would you spend to
bathe each month? ( All members of the family must bathe at least once a
week)
G. Savings or Money for extra costs like Birthday presents, medical emergencies, theft, entertainment, travel. How much money do you have left after paying for all of the items listed above?
