Week of September 15th- September 19th

Lessons

Monday and Tuesday- You have three assignments over the next two days. The first is based on lyrics from songs about Unions. The second is about factory safety conditions and the final activity is about working conditions in a meat factorySubmit your three assignments to me through Safe Assign* by 7:00am on Friday. (10E-45). 

Chapter 6 is due in class on Thursday. (Chapter 6 pages 246-269. Answer Reviewing the Chapter 1-20 Page 270)

Thursday- In class today we will achieve two goals- The first will be the assigning of your Bio-Board and the second will be a lecture on Progressive leaders.

If for some reason you are not in class today, you can still hear the short lecture on leaders from the Progressive  movement and  answer the questions . If you are listening to the lecture on CD, the link is wrong. To access the lecture open up the lectures folder on the CD. Then open the folder labeled prole. Then open the folder that's labeled synccd. Finally, click on the index.htm icon and the lecture will start. You can of course just listen to it now on-line.  History Social Science Standards -11.2.1 and  11.2.9  

BIOGRAPHY BOARD

During the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, there were many people who tried to correct problems which they observed in society. These people were known as Progressives. This assignment will done  individually. You are going to be given the name of a Progressive and you must create a Biography Board based on the instructions below. Be sure to attach a bibliography on the back of your bio-board. You will present your Bio-Board to the class next Lab Day Thursday Sept. 26th. (A-55) The following is a list of  Progressive Leaders. Before class next Thursday, please print out the list so you can take notes on that sheet.

Instructions: Using a poster board or like material, include the following information on the front. It should be neat, organized, and easy to follow. You will be presenting it in class so it should be visually pleasing to your audience. You may print neatly or type each part. Your Illustration may be hand drawn, printed out, or copied. If it is not your own drawing make sure to cite your source. Include a full bibliography on the back of your board. During your presentation you may use note cards or memorize your information. (Do not plan to read from your board. That makes for a poor presentation and reflects little preparation)

Quote: Place a significant quote, either from your leader or about your leader, here. Explain how this quote reflects the beliefs of your leader.

TIMELINE: Draw a vertical timeline which includes at least 10 key events from your leader's life.

Title: Create an original title for your project using the name of your Progressive ILLUSTRATION and ORIGINAL CAPTION: Place a photo or drawing of your leader here and create an original caption for it.
Part 1

FOUR PART FLOW CHART (Minimum of 5 sentences for each part): Part 1 of your flow chart will describe the problem and provide a specific example of where this problem existed.

Part 2

FOUR PART FLOW CHART (Minimum of 5 sentences for each part): Part 2 of your flow chart will explain how your person exposed society to the problem. Include a visual representation of how your Progressive leader communicated with the masses.

Part 3

FOUR PART FLOW CHART (Minimum of 5 sentences for each part):Part 3 of your flow chart will be a description of how the government reacted to the problems exposed by your Progressive Leader. Where possible, include specific legislation put into effect to address the problems raised by your Progressive leader.

Part 4

FOUR PART FLOW CHART (Minimum of 5 sentences for each part): Part 4 of your flow chart will explore the modern era. Does the major problem still exist today? If yes, describe an actual situation where the problem would be evident. If no, what current societal problem would be most closely related to the original problem? Describe

Friday- Online assignment for today is to research and work on your Bio-Board. Before class on Thursday, please print out the list of Progressive Leaders. so you can take notes on that sheet.

Click on that and it will take you to a list of assignments that are due using Safe Assign. Click on the assignment you are doing and follow the directions. It will ask you to attach your word document with your answers and submit it.
