Lessons

Monday - Look at  the following  political cartoons about immigration. See if you can identify the various stereotypes that exist in each. Some of them are hard to read or see the details so just do your best. (You are not submitting these answers, they are just to help you form an opinion for the following task.)

After reflecting on what you have learned about immigration so far, read the following perspective and answer the question at the end.

Some people describe the United States as a melting pot (different cultures were being poured into a giant pot called America, heated to a low boil and molded into one kind of person, an American) while others believe we are a tossed salad (The English are lettuce, Germans as radishes, Italians as tomatoes and so on and so forth making a giant salad. All different kinds of fruits and vegetables tossed together in a bowl to create one dish. Everything in close quarters of each other, but still separate and individual).
Now, what do you think? Is the United States today, a melting pot or a tossed salad? Use at least 2 concrete details from your previous assignments (lectures, notes, text) to support your opinion.  (7E-10) Submit your answer to the melting pot question through Safe Assign* by 7:00am Wednesday
