We will be meeting in class THREE DAYS-Tues., Wed, and Thurs., this week during 6th period. Friday we will not be in class and you will have your first On Line Assignment!

MANDATORY Bring your text books to class EVERYDAY!!!

Tuesday- IN CLASS- Welcome back!  I hope you had a great summer and you're ready for an exciting and full year of U.S. History! We will be meeting on campus in room U-6  today, Wednesday, and Thursday. I will distribute our "Keys To Success" in an online class and go over all of the class procedures. You will have two homework assignments: Finish your life timeline assignment (10 significant dates in your life) and bring it to class AND send the following email:

By 7:00 am on Wednesday (08/20), I would like each of you to e-mail (tgiffin@powayusd.com) a message which includes

1. your name

2. your e-mail address

3. your cell phone #

4. school schedule (period, class, teacher)

5. home phone number

6. parents/guardians names and contact info (email and cell phone #s)

7. School activities, clubs, extracurricular activities, job...

Please be sure to include your complete name in the subject line and e-mail it to me at  tgiffin@powayusd.com  This is the e-mail account  where you will send all assignments. Please e-mail this from your e-mail account that you will be using for this class throughout the semester. If you do not have an e-mail account yet, please open a yahoo account to use for this class.

All assignments must be typed in either Arial or New Times Roman, be black, and have a font size of 12.

Wednesday-IN CLASS- You will receive a map of the U.S. We will be using our textbooks to color and label your maps. Due Thursday (A-20) We will work on your Life Timeline. Finally, I am  going to show you how to access your first on-line lecture.  During the course of the year, we will hear online guest lectures from a previous US Online instructor.  If you click on the following links you will  hear a lecture on different bodies of water in the U.S. and about  land  . Please use the web, your textbook, and the lectures to help you locate and label any places or features you have not yet labeled on your map. Make sure you have the correct location for each geographic feature.  You must use color to differentiate between land and water features.  Your maps will be due tomorrow (A-20)! One last item for you is to view the animated atlas. This is a 10 minute movie that shows how the United States went from the Atlantic to the Pacific. 

Thursday -IN CLASS-"Keys to Success" with Signatures AND Completed maps are Due Today!  Next week, Tuesday, August 25th we will take a geography quiz based on the work you did with your maps. You may use your text book atlas to study and on Monday you will get your maps to study from as well.

Homework:Finish your Life Timeline. It should have 10 significant events with a paragraph for each event and a picture, illustration, or photo for each event. Your Life Timeline is due Monday, August 24th, in class  (A-30). Hard Copy only please.

Friday- You are about to view commemorative stamps from before 1900. Each stamp has a question and a link which will lead you to the answer. For each stamp you need to a) answer the question in your own words and b) write down one fact you learned from the web site. Submit your response to a) and b) for each of the 10 stamps using Safe Assign* on Learning Point by 7:00 am on Monday. (1E-20pts) History Social Science Standards 11.1.1 & 11.1.2 (Links to the History Standards are for your info. only. This is what the State of California has established as what students should know after taking US History)

*Safe Assign instructions: Go to Mrs. Giffin's Learning Point site and find the "Safe Assignments" button on the left. Click on that and it will take you to a list of assignments that are due using Safe Assign. Click on the assignment you are doing and follow the directions. It will ask you to attach your word document with your answers and submit it.
