Monday: First, listen to a short lecture about one of the most outspoken figures in the cold war,  Senator Joseph McCarthy.  Second,  read about Senator Joseph McCarthy. Begin by reading about his historical background and then read pages 1-5 of a letter he sent to President Truman.  After reading pages 1-5, in a paragraph, write an explaination of  why you think McCarthy sent this telegram? Next, read page 6. In a paragraph, what appears to be the real reason he sent the letter? Explain. Finally, pretend you are President Truman and write a brief response to Senator McCarthy's telegram E-mail your answers to me by 7:00 am Tuesday. (A-15)

Tuesday - First, as we continue our exploration of the Cold War, I would like you examine some of the  Cold War Flashpoints. I have separated the events into 3 time periods.  The first is 1945-1959. The second is 1960-1969. The third is 1970-1991. For the first two time periods rank the top 5 events that you believe put the world on the brink of war. For the final time period, choose the top 3 events. Then explain why you believe your #1 choice in each time period put the world on the brink of war. You must e-mail your response to me  by 7:00 a.m. Thursday. (A-15) History Social Science Standard 11.9.3 Second, the Cold War was a period where spying was to be expected by both the United States and The Soviet Union. To gain a better appreciation for the era read about  the    weapons that were used and the ways in which both sides practiced espionage  Once you have explored both links answer the following questions. 

1- Which weapon gave a spy the greatest chance for concealing and carrying out an assassination? Explain your answer. 

2-Which espionage device would be hardest to detect? Why? 

E-mail your answers to me by 7:00 am Friday. (A-15)

Lab Day- We will see three video segments (the Bay of Pigs invasion, the Berlin Wall, and the Cuban Missile Crisis) and you will answer these questions We will then have a Quiz on Cold War!
