Week of Sept. 29th-October 3rd Monday- Professional Growth day, No School! Tuesday- Today is set aside as a review day for your second unit exam. I strongly suggest that you spend a minimum of 1-2 hours studying for your exam. Your test will focus on the effects of industrialization, the role of Unions, and the Progressive Movement. Lab Day- We will start the day with your second unit exam. After your unit exam, we will have a lecture on "Religion in America" including the impact on religion on the founding of our country, the Second Great Awakening, and religious pluralism in America. History Social Science Standards 11.3.1 and 11.3.2 Friday- The first amendment to the
US Constitution states that: Congress shall make no law respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people
peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of
grievances. 1. How were Baptists and other dissenting religious groups discriminated against during colonial times? 2. In what ways did John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison agree on separating church and state? 3. How do Justices Black and Rehnquist differ over the meaning of the establishment clause in the First Amendment? 4. Whom do you agree with? Why?
