Monday - Thesis statements are due today.
The first amendment to the US Constitution states that:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or
prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech,
or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to
petition the government for a redress of grievances.
This phrase means different things to different people. Today, you are going to
read about the
Separation of Church and State. As you read the document, answer the
following questions: (A-20)
1. How were Baptists and other dissenting religious groups discriminated against during colonial times?
2. In what ways did John Locke, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison agree on separating church and state?
3. How do Justices Black and Rehnquist differ over the meaning of the establishment clause in the First Amendment?
4. Whom do you agree with? Why?
Tuesday - One group that was persecuted for their religious beliefs was the Mormons. Read about The Persecution of the Mormons. As you read the document, answer the following questions: (A-20)
Lab Day- We will start our study of American Imperialism by examining our fulfillment of Manifest Destiny. Next, you will work on Isolationism to Imperialism: The Foreign Policy Spectrum.
Finally, you will sign up for your Research Paper Outline Conference today. History Social Science Standard - 11.4.1 & 11.4.2 & 11.4.3
Friday- Today is set aside for you to organize some of your research for your US History Research Paper. You are to type at least 3 Support Thesis statements and have at least one piece of documented evidence (Concrete Details) for each. The more evidence you have the better feedback you'll receive.
