Grading of both the oral and short answer essay sections
of the final will be based on a rubric as follows:
Outstanding (5): Student has mastered the concepts
presented in the class. Shows a
great deal of control of the grammatical topics and has an extensive vocabulary
that covers a variety of areas and social interactions. There are virtually no mistakes with the
elements covered in class this semester, especially with irregular
forms.
Very Good (4): Student demonstrates good control of the
grammar and vocabulary with which we worked this semester. Uses the new vocabulary and structures
introduced in class instead of relying on previously learned material. May still make some mistakes with more
advanced irregular structures, but regular and high frequency forms are
correct.
Adequate (3):
Student is still working on control of the concepts and grammar of
the course but demonstrates a general understanding. Relies on previously learned material
although introduction of new expressions and structures is present if not
completely accurate. High frequency
and basic structures are correct although there are errors with irregular
forms.
Reduced (2):
Student demonstrates little control of the concepts of the course. There are significant errors in even the
most basic sentences and expressions. Uses elementary vocabulary and even
regular forms, high frequency structures and previously learned material contain
mistakes. Difficult to comprehend
or deduce meaning.
Below grade level(1): Unacceptable, inappropriate or
completely incomprehensible
