Week 1 Foundations

2.  After reading Chapter 1:  Foundations- Answer the following questions (print out a hard copy):

1. Define energy.
2. A special molecule called __________ sets living things apart from the nonliving world.
3. Explain the broad meaning of metabolism; describe the role of ATP in metabolism.
4. Describe the role of the molecules and structures known as receptors.
5. __________ results in favorable operating conditions inside the cell or the body as a whole; cite one example that involves the human body.
6.  List and give a definition for each of the levels of organization in nature and arrange them from the least inclusive to the most inclusive (nonliving cellular components to biosphere).
7. Define and give an example of Producers, Consumers and Decomposers.  Explain how the actions of producers, consumers, and decomposers create an interdependency among organisms.
8. List and explain the 7 steps a person should follow when "doing science". 
9. The procedure you just listed and explained is actaully called "the  ______________ ______________".  
10. What is the difference between a Hypothesis and a Scientific Theory...explain.

Print out these questions and turn in  Lab Day 8/27.  

3.  DISCUSSION BOARD: Answer Week 1 Question.  Remember to write and respond in a professional manner  (follow the instructions for format).  Respond to at least 2 other students.  The Discussion Board can be found on Learningpoint under the Human Biology Online class button.  Due 8-27-08

4.  Lab:  "I Wonder Lab"--Bring foods and materials on Lab Day!  Maker sure your lab write-up is complete through the data/results chart (no data yet, just the chart).

You must bring your materials on Wed 8-27-08...or you cannot complete the lab  :>)
