q  Finish reading Musculoskeletal System chapter:  Red book Chapter 5  (5.7-5.11--especially 5.8)  Due:  1 page of reading notes 2-13-08

q  Finish your fill in the blank notes on Muscles (p. 8A- VII thru X)  Use this PowerPoint or Text outline to help you. Due 2-13-08

q  Finish ALL (always fronts and backs unless otherwise noted) of LB pages 17 through 21.  Due 2-14.  Do your best on these.  Any questions you might have, we can discuss in class on Wed (2-13-08). 

q  View the SDSU Actin Myosin Crossbridge 3D Animation.  Using all "The Players" (vocab. terms next to the animation), write a step-by-step original narrative of the Sliding Filament Model.  Please do your own work. There is no narrative with the animation, so you will most likely need your textbook (Ch 5 pg. 102-103)  Due 2-14-07    Note: If you are really having trouble with this, come in for extra help during 1st period.  I have a video that might help you with this concept. 

q  STUDY for the Quiz: Skeletal System Wed. 2-13-08.  Make sure you can name the skeleton bones that we went over in class (p. 4 of your lab book).  In addition you will need to study the anatomy of a bone, bone tissue (cells, haversian canal, lacunae, canaliculi etc.)see back of pg 4), and your skeleton notes. 

q  We will be doing a Muscle Lab in Class 2-13-08

q  There will be no Discussion Board Assignment this week due  :>)

q  You will have about 15-20 minutes during class (enough time for 1 station) to finish up the Skeletal Rotation Lab.  If you do not think you can finish in that time, please come by class during tutorial or 1st period to work on some of the lab stations.  I have summarized the Lab Stations and questions below.  You may want to use this to catch up on the lab:

Station 1:  LB p. 10 front and back

Station 2:  LB p. 11 front and back  (Chicken Bone)

Station 3:  LB p. 13-14  also draw and Label bone (Microscope + slide)

Station 4:  LB p. 16  Read and Label boxes and answer quest. 1-8.  Also, use your FIB notes to answer these questions:

     1.  Name and describe the 3 types of joints

     2.  where in the body might you find each of these 3 types of joints?

     3.  What is the purpose of Ligaments?

     4.  What is the capsule?  what does it produce?

     5.  What is the difference between osteo and rheumatoid arthritis?

Station 5:  LB p. 12 read and do questions.  Also answer:

     1.  What are Osteocytes?

     2.  What do Osteoblasts do?

     3.  What do Osteoclasts do?

     4.  How does Bone remodeling work?

     5 What hormones cause the release of calcium?

Station 6: Do LB p.9 front and answer the following questions.

     1.  What do vertebrae protect?

     2.  count the vertebrae on this model of the spine.  How many vertebrae are there?

     3.  What does marker "A" on the model of the spine point to?

     4.  What is the purpose of structure "A"?

     5.  What happens when it ruptures?

      6.  Ribs and Sternum:  How are ribs attached to the vertebrae?

     7.  How are ribs attached to the sternum?

     8.  What is Dorsal and Ventral?

Station 7:  Answer the following questions:

     1.  What are the 5 function of bone?

     2.  What are 4 types of bone?

     3.  What kind of tissue is bone?

     4.  Is bone living or non-living?

     5.  How does bone become hard?

     6.  Describe compact bone in a short paragraph.

     7.  Describe spongy bone in a short paragraph.

Station 8:  LB p. 14 back and p. 15 front and back

 

 

 

Next week's assignments
