q Study
for the Nervous System TEST:
Wednesday 5-14-08
Do the Nervous System Study Guide found on
Learningpoint under course
documents. The study guide will be due on Wednesday 5-14-08....For
Points!!!
Not only do some of you need the points, it will also help
you study for the Test.
q
Due this week
the Drug Detectives lab. If you did not hand it in (which most
of you did not) See the lab instructions
for example analysis of results sentences and how to write the conclusion
with analysis of
errors. Due 5-14-08
q The
Sensory Lab is due this week 5-14-08.
q The
Nervous System Poster is also due 5-14-08 (You will have time in class on
Wednesday to work on this).
If you did not get the information for the Challenge Exam look
at the following:
IMPORTANT INFO for students
taking the Challenge Exam:
You will need to fill out and give me a signed Application Signature Page and
a Tech Prep
Articulation Certification page. (In effect, you must register
with the college prior to the exam and give me the necessary paperwork.)
We will have a sign-up date Tues. May 20 in the library computer lab - 2:30-3:15.
The exam will be administered Tuesday
May 27 at 2:30 pm in Room J-8.
Below is a
study guide. This will need to be completed prior to the Exam. We
will devote Week 15 to reviewing for the exam. I will answer questions you
might have concerning this review packet in class May 21.
NOTE: Go back to Week 12 and Week 13 to download the
Study Guide. This is for points...anyone can do the study guide
(even if you do not plan to take the challenge exam). Some of you need
some points to bring your grade up. I do not usually give extra credit,
but here is a chance to get some extra credit points!!
*****Just in case you
are not able to get into learningpoint, I have attached the study Nervous system
study guide below. Remember this is due Wednesday 5-14-08.
Nervous
System Study Guide
- What is the main function of the Nervous System?
- What is the basic unit of the Nervous system?
- What is the CNS and PNS? What makes these systems up?
- What are the two main divisions of the PNS? What are their
functions?
- What are the divisions of the Autonomic Nervous System? What
are their functions?
- Draw and Label a Neuron. Show the direction an impulse follows
and how it moves across the synaptic cleft to the next neuron or
muscle cell.
- What is a neurotransmitter? Give 2 examples.
- What is a
- Sensory Neuron
- Motor Neuron
- Inter-Neuron
- Draw, label and describe a Reflex Arc.
- What controls a reflex?
- Functionally speaking, a nerve impulse is a series of changes in
the membrane _________________.
- When a neuron is at rest the membrane potential is ________millivolts.
In order to reach threshold the membrane must be about _________
millivolts. This occurs because _________ moves into the cell when
it is stimulated by a nerve impulse.
- What is a myelin sheath (what type of cells make up myelin)?
What are the spaces that separate adjacent Schwann cells called?
- What is the junction between two neurons called?
- Drug abuse usually involves those drugs which act on the
________ nervous system, are psychoactive , bind to
____________receptors, and change the chemical messages that neurons
send and ________________.
- Know the action of each of these drugs:
- Caffeine
- Nicotine
- Cocaine
- Amphetamines
- Alcohol
- Hallucinogens
- Cannabis
- Give the function of the following parts of the brain:
- Cerebrum
- Cerebellum
- Medulla oblongata
- Hypothalamus
- Pituitary gland
- Give the function of the cerebral cortex lobes
- Frontal-
- Parietal
- Occipital
- Temporal
- What connects the 2 hemispheres of the brain?
- What does the left hemisphere of the brain specialize in? The
right hemisphere?
21. Be able to label all diagrams found on p. 71 (front and back)
in your lab book (Neuron, Neuromuscular Junction, Spinal Cord and Reflex
Arc).
