Above: A poster lies in the background of a soldier, protecting all citizens of Oceania against the Eurasians. Depending on what week it is, however, Oceania may be at war with others, too. Orwell composed the novel as such to display how ruthless leaders adopt a type of "spin doctor" attitude, dictating what they believe the people of their country should hear.

This is a picture showing Winston at his desk, probably rewriting a section of the paper so that the Party can keep up with their ongoing historical lies. In the background would be a place to send old materials through a hole in the wall (memory holes) in order to burn them, thus erasing any record of things from the past.

Monday May 5th- Friday May 9th

(Week 3 of the Senior speeches: make sure you're prepared!

Due THIS lab day: Continuation of senior speeches, reading of the novel 1984

In-Class: We will begin with those people presenting their speeches first. We will then have a class discussion about the novel. Be prepared for a test on the material that has been assigned so far.

Assignments: Continue preparing your senior speech, if you are due this week, be sure to be prepared. The list is once again, below. Please be sure you are here on the date assigned. Failure to show will result in an automatic loss of 25% of the grade

If you are behind in the novel, keep up with the reading at this point.

As we approach the end of the novel, Winston is dragged into room 101 to confront his worst fears. O'Brien ensures that whatever Winston faces, it will be the worst form of torture that he personally can stand. What are your worst fears?Think about the phobias you have, (spiders, heights, coyotes, etc.), and then put them all together to imagine what is the worst thing anyone could do to you. Please TYPE up a one-page response highlighting the above prompt, in other words, what is your Room 101, and bring it with you NEXT lab day.
