Thursday August 24th- Friday August 25th Welcome back to school. This being our first week, we will meet in my classroom for the first 2 days, (Tuesday and Wednesday). I am located in V-3 at the BACK of the school close to the fire lane. The reason we will be in the classroom for 2 days is so that I can give you information regarding the course, go over how the site works, and get to know each of you on a personal level. Tuesday and Wednesday are regular day schedules (periods 1-6), Next week you will be on your own to attend classes EVERY lab day. Assignments: Read pages 1-9 from your Prentice Hall literature book. Be prepared for a test on this subject matter by next lab day. The pages regarding history are very detailed and taking notes to study from is very advisable. There will be no specific questions about the timelines, but be prepared for specific questions from the reading. The reason why history is such an important facet to the class is because whatever affected the time period is often reflected in the literature itself. Be prepared for quizzes from Anglo-Saxon times all the way through to the twentieth century. Each test will be worth 20-25 points. Assignments: TYPE a one page statement explaining what you think are some of the many differences between Britain and the United States. Even if you have never been to England, Scotland, Ireland or Wales, look at some of the television shows you have watched, news articles read, British people you have met, anything that helps to differentiate between America and Britain. Be sure this article is not only TYPED, but PRINTED before class. Work becomes late if it is not submitted by class time. If you are sick send work to tcalver@powayusd.com, it must still be submitted before your class time. This assignment is due NEXT lab day. Each assignment is worth 20 points. In-Class: On Tuesday we will be discussing how the class works, rules, etc., and getting to know each other. You should already have picked up your large Prentice Hall Brit. Lit. text book during registration, if not, you will need it as soon as possible. On Wednesday, we'll answer any further questions you have regarding the class and start looking at the difference between Britain and the U.S. Links: Roman Conquest More info. on Caesar Brittania.com, a very useful site for the whole year.
